Meso Caring CentreRooted in care, growing with vision

One hub. Seven communities. 30,000+ lives.

From protecting children to transforming communities

Meso Caring Centre (MCC) is a women-led, community-rooted NGO and social enterprise established in Botswana in 2011. What began as a safe haven for children has grown into a community-driven model connecting education, sustainable agriculture, food security and economic empowerment.

Built with communities, not for communities.

Who we are

MCC works alongside communities to create practical, sustainable solutions for children, families, women, youth, farmers and people with disabilities.

Our approach is built around creating opportunities that strengthen communities over the long term, combining social impact with sustainable enterprise.

The challenge

Communities face connected challenges: limited economic opportunities, unemployment, food-security pressures, vulnerable children needing access to quality early education, and small farmers needing stronger markets and productive resources. We believe these challenges need integrated solutions that connect people, production and opportunity.

Our story

Meso Caring Centre was established in 2011 after identifying vulnerable children roaming the streets and families unable to afford early childhood education. MCC began providing a safe environment and free ECDE support for the children who needed it most, and for more than a decade worked alongside children, parents, families and communities.

Then COVID-19 brought a major setback. MCC's rented centre was looted, and essential equipment, furniture, books, toys, computers, mattresses, playground items and other resources were lost. MCC spent approximately five years rebuilding and preparing for a new chapter.

Today we are rebuilding with a broader vision: from community support to community-rooted economic development.

How MCC creates value

We start with

  • Land
  • Water
  • Solar energy
  • Agriculture

We add

  • Value addition
  • Markets

Communities gain

  • Revenue
  • Employment
  • Education
  • Community development

We don't separate community development from economic development.

Morabane Agricultural Development Hub

Morabane is the hub. The communities are the purpose.

MCC is developing the Morabane Agricultural Development Hub, located approximately 15 km from Molepolole. The site is 5 hectares under a legally binding lease. It is being developed as a central agricultural hub serving the seven communities connected to MCC.

The model brings together commercial agriculture, food production, job creation, skills development and community impact.

What is already in place

  • Fenced 5-hectare site
  • 5-year lease
  • Water reservoir
  • Solar-powered borehole
  • Irrigation
  • Solar-powered electricity

Planned agricultural enterprises

Poultry production

Commercial poultry value-chain development.

Climate-smart crop production

Food and commercial crops, plus maize, sorghum, soya beans, sunflower and alfalfa for our own animal feed. We will also buy grain from the farmers we support.

Because the site is leased, all infrastructure is designed to be removable and not permanent.

Planned hub infrastructure

  • Modular broiler houses
  • Layer house
  • Parent-stock units
  • Hatchery
  • Modular processing and packing facility
  • Cold room and dispatch area
  • Feed mill and feed-crop production
  • Solar plant, reservoir and irrigation systems
  • Biodigester
  • Biosecurity gate and security infrastructure
  • Training and innovation centre
  • Labour accommodation and administration facilities

Our integrated agricultural cycle: crops → animal feed → poultry → manure → soil → crops.

Our long-term ambition: from price takers to primary suppliers.

The objective is to build a productive agricultural enterprise that creates sustainable economic value while strengthening food security and community development.

Smart farming technology

We plan to use modern, practical technology to farm more efficiently, protect water and keep food safe. Technology will be introduced step by step, where it solves a real problem.

Drones

Crop monitoring, pest detection, irrigation mapping and farm surveillance. We will follow Botswana's aviation rules.

Solar power and smart irrigation

Solar power and efficient irrigation to save water and energy.

Sensors and monitoring

Soil moisture, temperature and humidity sensors for fields, poultry houses and cold rooms.

Digital records and traceability

Batch records from parent stock to customer, so every product can be traced.

Security and biosecurity

A biosecurity gate and CCTV to protect people, birds and equipment.

Planned, subject to financing and approvals.

Our plan: what's next

We are building step by step. Each step pays for the next and brings more benefit to our seven communities.
